CC BACK AND KICKIN????

Sun Nov 28, 2004, 11:22 AM
So to be totally honest, I've forgotten about this place. Completely.

The demand got to be a little overwhelming, I think. BUT.

Who's up for trying to revive it?

CC rules!

This is a page devoted to honest, non kiss-ass critique and commentary.
So many talented artists are leaving DA due to the large amount of art-fodder and fake kissass comments. I, for one, am sick of scrolling through pages and pages of snapshots of people's dogs and mspaint travesties, as well as mountains of comments that simply say " cool! nice colors and composition! you're hot! that looks like radiohead art!"
There is so much potential talent on DA that is not being pushed into evolving, and that needs to change.
So many artists are hungry for honest critique, yet when they get it, they can't handle it. I don't want to offend people or get banned from DA, therefore if you come to this site and request an honest critique of your work, please don't resort to personal defense attacks and or admin maneuvers. If you ask for it, you're going to get it, and you need to be able to take the good with the bad.
The purpose of this is to help artists that need help, and to exchange honest ideas among one another, not to be jerks just for the sake of being jerks. We could all make better art if we learn something from all of this, so let's keep it on that level and remember the purpose, ok?

The Rules:

Post a devious comment on this userpage linking 1 piece of work.

Don't link your whole gallery at once, we don't have that kind of time!

At least one member of DA Critique Crusade will respond.

Please don't claim to be a member if you're not, because your views or words could inadvertently represent that of CC, and we don't want that. All official members will be posted here. Feel free to slut the community in your journals/sigs, though.

MEMBERSHIP: If you are interested in becoming a participating member, you must critique the uploaded artwork (once I upload it). I am not sure where it will come from, yet, but it will be there, and it will need critiqueing. Based on how you critique it, your membership will be decided. We're not trying to be elitist fucks, we just want to make sure we keep up our reputation. If you can't critique something well or honestly, then there's kind of no point for you to be an official member. Nothing is stopping you from posting comments on these people's work, though, just don't do it as a member of CC. Thanks

Note to all the people that feel the need to attack CC:
There have been many questions on the aspect of 'Adding suggestions' in our critiques, and I'm not sure why. No where in our statement does it suggest that we won't try to add suggestions, and 99.9% of the time, we do. There may be a few cases where we don't, and it's on a piece by piece basis. Many of you understand this once you read through our critiques. Thank you for your reccommendations, I appreciate them, but please understand that we are doing everything in our power to give suggestions in our critiques. If yours was one of the .01% that didn't get any, please don't be offended.

I am really tired of defending this page against people who haven't even read our critiques and don't want to bother before they make silly assumptions and begin to attack us or stand on their soapboxes and preach. READ OUR CRITIQUES.
Honestly, they're good ones. Almost everyone that we've critiqued thanks us for our time, honesty, and diplomacy, but there has been a ridiculous attack on cc through journal comments about a situation that doesn't even exist. I guess there's always going to be that one person that just won't get it or be satisfied with it, and we were expecting that, it comes with the territory. I will defend CC only so long, but if you come here with personal attacks for no reason, be aware that from now on, they will be ignored. Thank you to all the lovely members that take the time to talk to me through notes/email/aim about what cc is instead of showcasing it on a public page to gain negative attention.

We aren't being asses in our critiques, and thankfully have had a very minimal amount of concerns so far, therefore if you're looking to 'critique the way we critique' and you have an honest suggestion, let me know through a note or email.
But please read through our critiques first!! :)
I will not stand for random deviants coming and trying to deface cc for absolutely no reason other than some assumption they made about any of us.

Also, on a positive note - This CC thing has been a great way to discover some really great talent! I always knew DA was full of amazing artists but I've discovered a few that are really exceptional, so that's awesome.
This whole experience has been very fun, very enlightening, and destroy666 and I are having an absolute blast with it all.
Thank you to everyone that has let us critique their work or showed interest in becoming a member!

Note to all the people that feel the need to attack CC:
I am very tired of explaining things about critique crusade, especially on my own page. If you have issues with it, that's great. There is no way to please everyone, and for people critiqueing the way we critique, you just keep on until you're satisfied. Honestly. If any of you have read my critiques you'll find that I'm not an ass about any of it. I'm trying to help. I will try to be constructive, but when someone uploads, say, a piece that's merely the color red with some filters thrown on it, where am I supposed to build from? "Good filters?"
It's probably been said 20 times already from previous commenters. We don't need to be repetitive, and we don't need to 'pretend' there is something there that's worth something if there really isn't. The whole idea is to break OUT of the sugar-coating. When I critique your art I am not critiqueing you as a person. When I critique your art I am simply communicating how the art makes me react. If you're silly enough to think that being honest is immature, that's fine. I'm not stupid enough to think that '100% brutal honesty' is the magic key to the world, I know better than that, and I'm intelligent enough to express my reaction without sounding like an ass. I do say what's good about a piece if it's there, which 70% of the time, it is. If there's nothing that strikes me as well done in the piece, I'm not going to fake it, and if that upsets you, you can defend yourself against me all you want, but it won't help your art at all.
If any of you are planning to be in art classes, ever, or to have gallery showings or perform any kind of job where your art is involved, this is how other students, teachers, critics, and art-goers will react. I'm not saying it to make my art sound better, myself sound better, or to be an asshole. I'm giving you exactly what you requested. With that being said, I really am tired of defending this. I am sure many more of you are going to come to me with the same issues as the 50 people before you, and in that case, I will not respond any further. If it's your perogative to attack the people involved instead of actually letting us look at your art, then obviously there are some insecurity issues there and I'm not going to dig, because everything I say will be met with pettiness. There are many people that are happy we're doing what we're doing, and there have been many artists seeking what we give. If you are not interested in participating, then please move along. If you have a suggestion, feel free to speak it, but for the last time, there is not going to be something constructive everytime, and I'm not going to bs it from thin air.
I will do my best to give good, honest critiques, everytime, and so will all the other members. :)
Thank you for visiting and I hope that if you read this you understand what this is about a little more.
